300 Words Blog Post Case Study (Is It On The First Page?)

Can a blog post with only 300 words rank well in Google search?

I was curious.

So, I did the logical thing to do and visited the library— Google.

I googled “300 words blog.”

I wondered if I would see an actual blog post with only 300 words, ranking well on the first page of Google search.

Guess what?

The 300 words blog google search results

The number one article on the search engine results page is John Saddington’s article about blogs containing only 300 words.

I counted the words using the copy and paste method into a Google document and the word count tool.

I didn’t want to use a website page word counter such as Web Page Counter as it also counts every word outside the main body.

Great blogs publish posts with 300 words or more

The word count is 1151, which is quite a lot. That doesn’t prove to me that a 300 words blog post can get on the first page of Google.

The second “300 words blog” Google search result is from Yoast which I already know that the article will be at least 1000 words long. Just click on their article and see for yourself: Word count and SEO: how long should a blog post or page be?

However, as I scrolled down a little further, there is another article that contains only 300 something words in third place.

I made sure it’s 300 words by copying and pasting again and checking the word count in Google Docs. And this is what I got:

Why my 200-300 word blog posts are good enough for Google

It returned a 335 words count. Which is proof that a 300 words blog post can rank very well on the Google search results page.
